
Prof. Antje Weithaas received her first violin lessons at the age of four and a half. She studied violin at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin with Professor Werner Scholz and won prizes in competitions such as the Kreisler Competition in Graz, the Bach Competition in Leipzig and the International Violin Competition in Hannover. As a soloist, Antje Weithaas has given concerts throughout the world with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Bamberger Symphoniker, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Vladimir Askenazy, Sir Neville Marriner, Yuri Temirkanov, Franz Br¸ggen, Yakov Kreizberg, Sakari Oramo, Tuomas Dausgaard, Carlos Kalmar, Andrej Boreyko, Christian Zacharias, Bruno Weil and Hans Vonk. As a chamber music partner she works with Tanja and Christian Tetzlaff, Clemens Hagen, Silke Avenhaus, Sharon Kam and Lars Vogt in varying constellations at festivals such as the Heimbach "Spannungen"-Festival, in Schloss Elmau, in Feldkirch, Delft and Mondsee. Along with Tabea Zimmermann, Daniel Sepec and Jean-Guihen Queyras Antje Weithaas founded the ARCANTO Quartet. Antje Weithaas has taught violin since 1995, initially as guest professor at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin and from 1999-2004 as Professor at the University of the Arts Berlin. In the winter semester 2004/2005 Antje Weithaas takes up a Violin Professorship at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin.
