Prof. Benoît Fromanger

Benoît Fromanger was born in Paris and studied flute at the Conservatoire National Versailles and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. Following a contract with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse he became principal flute with the orchestra of the Paris Opera. In 1993 Fromanger moved to the same post in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Lorin Maazel. He has received many awards, including the „Grand Prix de l`Académie Charles Cros“, the Echo Classical prize, the „Grand Prix du Disque“ and the „Diapason d´Or“. He has played under the baton of Leonard Bernstein, Bernard Haitink, Zubin Mehta, Carlo Maria Giulini, Daniel Barenboim, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Pierre Boulez, Colin Davis Georg Solti, Carlos Kleiber, Ricardo Muti and Mariss Jansons. As soloist Fromanger appears worldwide with such orchestras as the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, the KBS Orchestra Seoul, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre d´Auvergne, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, „Barock Solisten“ Munich, Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Prague Chamber Orchestra and the American Chamber Orchestra. He plays chamber music concerts with Katia and Marielle Labèque, the Dresden Trio, Yuri Bashmet, Viktoria Mullova and the Matisse Quintett. He has made CD recordings for several record companies. Benoît Fromanger frequently sits on juries and since 1996 he has been president of the first international competition for „Amateur musicians“ (CEM). He gives masterclasses in Europe, Asia and the USA. He was appointed Professor of Flute at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin from the summer semester 2004.
