Chamber Orchestra

The chamber orchestra of the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin was founded in 1997 and is one of the training ensembles within the framework of the Academy's education concept. Under the direction of Christoph Poppen the first concerts were given in the atrium of Quartier 206 and in the Apollo Room of the State Opera.
On the initiative of Christhard Gössling, the Academy's director from 2000 to 2008 and principal trombonist with the Berlin Philharmonic, a cooperation between the Berlin Philharmonic Foundation and the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin came into being.

Since April 2001 the chamber orchestra has been a regular guest ensemble in the chamber music hall of the Philharmonie. Students, Academy teachers and members of the Berlin Philharmonic perform as soloists in the concerts. The ensemble is conducted by Academy teachers and members of the Berlin Philharmonic. In 2001 Nikolaus Harnoncourt led an orchestral workshop with the chamber orchestra in the smaller hall of the Konzerthaus.

The chamber orchestra also participates in benefit concerts for the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin - for example, the ensemble perfomed in the atrium of the Deutsche Bank with Thomas Quasthoff and Jochen Kowalski.
