Echo ensemble for new music

The Echo Ensemble for New Music was founded in 1997 at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin. Its repertoire focuses on works for chamber ensemble and chamber orchestra of the 20th century and the present day. The ensemble is one of the training orchestras of the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler and gives concerts regularly.

In addition, individual projects developed in cooperation with e.g. the Konzerthaus berlin, the State Opera Unter den Lindenand the Guggenheim Museum. From 1999 until 2007 the ensemble’s artistic director was Prof. Konstantia Gourzi, and since the summer semester 2008 it is led by Prof. Manuel Nawri.

"The concert programmes reflect the 20th century’s variety of styles, at the same time opening up to film and video projection as well as live electronics. In the Echo Ensemble students encounter others who wish to know more about extended playing techniques and new artistic concepts, and who are learning to enjoy discovering our musical present."
