
Prof. Esko Laine was born in 1961 in Helsinki. Studied double bass at the Hyvinkää Conservatoire in Finland, with Günter Klaus at the Academy of Music and the Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main, with Franco Petracchi at the Geneva Conservatoire and at the Menuhin Academy in Gstaad. Prizewinner in international competitions, e.g. Isle of Man, International Instrumental Competition Markneukirchen, International ARD Competition. At age 18 member of the Finnish National Opera orchestra. Since 1986 member of the Berlin Philharmonic, 1999-2001 its principal bass. Member of the ensemble "Die Berliner" and the Philharmonic Octet. Premiered many works for double bass. Tutor to the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the Herbert von Karajan Academy as well as masterclasses in Finland, Sweden, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. Since 2000 tutor in the Orchestral Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic and guest professor for double bass at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin.
