Prof. Henri Sigfridsson

Henri Ilari Sigfridsson born in 1974 in Turku/ Finland. 1985-89 studied piano at the conservatoire in Turku/ Finland, 1989-95 studied at the Sibelius Academy Helsinki with Prof. Erik T. Tawaststjerna, 1995-97 at the Academy of Music in Weimar with Prof. Lazar Berman and 1995-2007 at the Cologne Academy of Music in the Masters class of Prof. Pavel Gililov. Numerous prizes and awards: 1st prize in the international Franz Liszt competition in Weimar 1994, 1st prize in the scandinavian competition ”The Nordic Soloist Competition“ in Iceland 1995, 2nd prize and audience prize in the Geza Anda competition in Zurich 2000, the North Rhine-Westfalian sponsorship award for young artists 2001 and a scholarship from the Dortmund Mozart Society, 2nd prize in the Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens 2004, and 1st prize, audience prize and chamber music prize in the Beethoven Competition in Bonn 2005. Guest appearances at international festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, Beethoven Festival Bonn, Styriarte, Ruhr Piano Festival, Lucerne Festival, Kissinger Sommer, Augsburg Mozart Festival, Menuhin Festival Gstaad and Lockenhaus Festival. Soloist in orchestral concerts with e.g. the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Weimar Staatskapelle, RSO Helsinki, Camerata Salzburg, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra under Vladimir Ashkenazy, Lawrence Foster, Sakari Oramo, Alexander Lazarev, Georg Alexander Albrecht, Volker Schmidt-Gertenbach, Dennis Russel Davies. Appearances in the Konzerthaus Berlin, Herkulessaal Munich, Tonhalle Zurich, Wigmore Hall London, Châtelet Paris as well as the Philharmonic Halls in Berlin, Munchen, Cologne, Budapest and St. Petersburg. Since 2000 regular invitations to perform in Japan. Chamber music partners have included Gidon Kremer, Ivry Gitlis, Mischa Maisky, Leonidas Kavakos, Patricia Kopachinskaya, Sol Gabetta, Massimo Quarta, Mihaela Martin, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Johannes Moser and Boris Pergamenchikov. Various CD recordings, e.g. Franz Xaver Mozart’s piano concerti 1 und 2, Jean Sibelius’ piano works and Sergej Rachmaninov’s piano concerti nos. 2 und 3. Numerous world premieres and recordings of works by contemporary composers. Since 2000 Henri Sigfridsson gives regular international masterclasses and teaches at the college in Turku/ Finland. 2008-09 guest professor for piano music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. From the summer semester 2010 guest professor for piano at the Academy of Music ”Hanns Eisler“ Berlin.
