Prof. Maria Baptist

Prof. Maria Baptist was born in Berlin. First piano lessons at the age of six. Studied piano (classical / jazz) then composition at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin and the New School in New York. Numerous prizes in competitions and festivals, e.g. International Piano Improvisation Competition in Lithuania, Leipzig Young Musicians Jazz Festival and International Thad Jones composers competition in Kopenhagen. Founded the Maria Baptist Trio in 1994. Concert appearances in Germany and abroad, recently also in the Potsdam Jazz Festival, the Freiberger Jazztagen and in Greece and as conductor of the premiere of her own work "Night Scenes" with the Jena Philharmonic and Big Band. Numerous CD recordings as performer and composer as well as radio and TV appearances in Europe. Active as teacher, 2001 - 2010 as guest professor and since summer semester 2010 as honorary professor of composition, arranging and improvisation at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin.
