Martin Bruns, grew up in Basle/Switzerland. Studied violin in Basle, Violinist in the Berne Symphony Orchestra. Thereafter studied voice with Daniel Ferro at the Juilliard School in New York. Numerous international prizes and awards in the USA and Europe. Contracted to the Hessischen Staatstheater in Wiesbaden in roles such as Papageno, Guglielmo, Barbier, Tsar Peter and Donner. Guest contracts at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Seattle Opera, in Berne, Freiburg and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. Worked with the conductors Marcello Viotti, Ivor Bolton, Eric Ericson, Michel Corboz, Yoav Talmi, Heinz Holliger, Peter Ruzicka, Gerard Schwarz, Oleg Caetani and Jonathan Nott. Appearances at e.g., the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Internationale Musikfestwochen in Lucerne, the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, the Aldeburgh Festival, at La folle journée de Nantes and the Festival of Contemporary Music in Budapest. Collaborated with leading orchestras and ensembles in Europe and North America, e.g. the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich, the Scharoun Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic, the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg, dtheNew York Chamber Symphony, the Israel Kibbutz Orchestra, the Orfeón Donostiarra in San Sebastian, the Coro Gulbenkian and Orquestra Gulbenkian in Lisbon, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Ensemble 415 and the Wiener Klaviertrio. Recitals in many European countries as well as in Canada and the USA. Regular piano partners include Jan Philip Schulze, Ulrich Eisenlohr, Stéphane Lemelin and Christoph Hammer (Hammerflügel). Many world premieres and first performances, including works by Aribert Reimann, Wolfgang Rihm, Earl Kim, John Musto, Frangis Ali-Sadeh, Paul Engel. Many radio broadcasts in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and the USA as well as CD recordings. From 2009 Martin Bruns taught at the Zurich Academy of the Arts, 2010 professorship at the Academy of Music and Dance in Cologne as well as visiting professor at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin. Appointed full-time Professor of Voice at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin from the winter semester 2011/12.
