
Prof. Nino Sandow was born in Berlin. From 1982-88 he studied opera singing at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin and from 1985-86 he took foundation studies at the Academy of Dramatic Art "Ernst Busch" Berlin. After completing his singing diploma, he was engaged as soloist at the Opera Studio of the Komische Oper Berlin and at the Hans Otto Theatre Potsdam. Thereafter he studied music theatre directing from 1990-93 at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin. From 1992-98 he was an actor with the Berliner Ensemble; in 1993 he worked as a director in the Schillertheaterwerkstatt Berlin. After completing his directing diploma he took over the Brotfabrik theatre in 1996. Since 1998 Sandow has worked freelance as actor and singer in many different theatres and in TV and film, as well as directing productions for e.g. the Berliner Ensemble, Saalbau Neukölln and the Puppentheater Berlin. He has also performed in Europe and America. He has worked alongside artists such as Fritz Marquardt, Peter Zadek, Carlos Medina, Armin Petras, Josef Szeiler, Henry Hübchen, Stephan Suschke; Helke Misselwitz, Vivian Naefe, Heiner Carow, Nina Grosse; Norbert Skrovanek, Peter Brasch and the Performancegruppe Brown. He has made various CD recordings. In addition, he teaches freelance at the Freie Universität Berlin and the Academy of Film and Television "Konrad Wolf" Potsdam, as well as at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin. Nino Sandow was appointed guest professor from the winter semester 2006/07 and from the summer semester 2010 Professor of Drama.
