Master of Music
The consecutive Master study program for opera directing offers an education for directors who need to be able to work with and handle the diverse and ever changing requirements of the professional artistic life.
The study program provides
- practical artistic knowledge in the main subject directing
- advanced knowledge about theatre in theory and in practise
- advanced knowledge about production and production planning
It helps students to
- develop an artistic personality,
- develop a capacity for teamwork and communication skills in the coeducation with students of stage setting
- develop individual imagination and creativity as well as
- analytic and conceptional abilities
to prepare them for a professional life as directors in the music theater business.

The Entrance Examination
| Main Subject Opera Directing | The entrance examination for directing consists of two parts: 1. a theoretical exam in the main subject. The candidate can chose from a selection of topics of a given list of works. At the end of the application period (April 15) applicants will be notified about the literature used in the entrance examination 2. a practical exam in the main subject on given topics |
| Prerequisites: The following items are to be submitted at least two weeks before the entrance examination: 1. the production concept of a play chosen from the work list 2. an audio-visual documentation of an own music theater production on DVD 3. proof of theater experience in directing, assistance directing or visiting directing in at least two music theater productions 4. information on previous musical education | |
| Requirements: The theoretical exam will focus on the following: - basic knowledge about theater in theory and practise - rendition of the work's contents - basic musical knowledge - ability to artistically interpret and conceptualize individually - presentation of scenic stage (e.g. by a model stage design) - presentation of a production concept in an extemporaneous speech | |
| The practical examination will decide if applicants show great talent in the following fields: - scenic performing skills - imagination - creativity - music skills and knowledge - expression (verbal and non-verbal) - motivation skills - organizing skills | |
