Prof. Ricardo Rodrigues was born in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro and received his first music lessons from José Cocarelli. A DAAD scholarship allowed him to continue his studies with Ingo Goritzki, Heinz Holliger, Georg Meerwein and in the masterclass of Jochen Müller-Brincken. In Rio de Janeiro he was principal oboist at the State Opera. He performed and worked with various Brazilian composers, producing several CD recordings of their works. He gives particular emphasis to his work with the composer Jocy de Oliveira, with whom he recorded several works for oboe and tape, for example. From 1991-93 Ricardo Rodrigues taught at the Musikhochschule in Würzburg and produced a CD of works by composers at the Hochschule. He has been Professor of Oboe at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin since 1994. As well as giving his students a classical orchestral education, he strives to provide them with a broad education in the areas of chamber music, contemporary music and teaching.
