Prof. Diethelm Kühn

Prof. Diethelm Kühn began to study music at the specialist music school in Zwickau in 1959 and changed in 1963 to the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin, where he studied with Prof. Ewald Koch. He won prizes at international music competitions - in Geneva in 1967, at the Prague Spring festival in 1968 and in Budapest in 1970. He was awarded the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy scholarship for his artistic achievements. After graduating he became solo clarinettist in the Großes Rundfunkorchester Berlin. Since 1970 Diethelm Kühn has performed as soloist and in chamber music ensembles in Germany and abroad and made several radio recordings. Guest performances took him to Poland, the former Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Cuba, Tunisia, Sweden, France, Austria and the Netherlands. Diethelm Kühn was recognised with the title Chamber Musicer. From 1980-90 he was clarinettist and bass clarinettist in the ensemble Neue Musik Hanns Eisler in Leipzig. He began his teaching career in 1978 at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin, where he was tutor and then lecturer. In 1992 Diethelm Kühn was appointed Professor of Clarinet at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin.
