Prof. Friedemann Weigle

Prof. Friedemann Weigle was born in Berlin. First violin lessons at the age of six. Studied viola with Alfred Lipka at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin. Founded the Petersen Quartet with the violinist Ulrike Petersen, winning with them numerous prizes in international competitions. Before finishing his studies he became principal viola in the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, but gave up the position four years later due to solo and chamber music commitments with the Petersen Quartet. Friedemann Weigle is involved in establishing the viola as a solo instrument. To this end he develops dramaturgically unusual concert programmes which include art forms such as literature, photography and acting. In 2007, together with the artist Antoinette, he founded a salon of the same name. Since 2007 member of the Artemis Quartet, with whom he teaches at the University of the Arts Berlin and as guest professor at the Chapelle Reine Elisabeth in Brussels. Teaches viola and chamber music courses. From 1992 freelance teacher at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin, appointed honorary professor in 2007.
