Master of Music

The Consecutive Master Historical and Contemporary Musical Texture in Theory and Practise is designed to impart abilities and techniques that enable students to become creative and productive as well as educationally involved musicians. Graduates of the study program's emphasis "Teaching Music Theory" are prepared to teach music theory at academies and conservatories. Graduates of the study program's emphasis "Composition/Arranging" are prepared to create artistically relevant musical adaptations of own comnpositions and those of others.

The Entrance Examination

Main Subject Music TheoryMusic Theory is a pre-screened major. All applicants must submit scores and recordings (optional) in order to be considered for an invitation to a live audition.
In the entrance examination the candidates are asked to show their skills, abilities and knowledge in composition. The candidates are motivated to present their artistic personality by showing an artistic opinion, their individual potential as well as interests to the jury.

1. Presentation of scores of several own adaptions and arrangements varying in instrumentation and structure. Additional presentation of own compositions will be appreciated.
2. Proof of knowledge in music theory on Bachelor degree level:
- composing a short cadence (four part) according to diatonic functions
- analysis of a given short cadence
- playing of a simple and an augmented cadence with modulations on the piano
- playing and composing of figured bass tasks
- harmonizing of a folk song or a Jazz standard on the piano
