Incoming Erasmus Students
The European Erasmus program gives you the opportunity to come to our academy for one semester or a whole academic year. Most of our modules have a duration of two semesters, so we suggest students to come here for a whole year.
Please note that a bilateral agreement needs to be closed between our two academies/conservatories/universities in order to realize an exchange. You will find a list of our partners below:

Where can I apply?
To apply in person or to send an individual application to our academy is not possible. Please get in touch with the International Office at your home instiution to get all necessary forms and information to apply for the Erasmus program. Please note that we only have one application deadline per year.
Application deadline is March 31 for the entire following academic year, starting with the winter term in October.
The application documents are the following:
- Application Form
- Learning Agreement
- a CV
- a CD with own recordings of three pieces of different music styles, approx. 30 minutes
Please note, the CD is obligatory, even if you have played to or if you will play to a professor ! ! !
How can I register at the host institution?
You are asked to register until August 31 for the winter semester and until March 31 for the summer semester at the Students' Registration Office (Immatrikulationsamt), Charlottenstrasse 55, room 637. There is an option to delay the registration until the beginning of October/April so that you don't need to come here earlier than the beginning of the semester.
Please bring the following documents with you:
- a written confirmation from your student health insurance. Health insurance companies issue the European Health Insurance Card that allow you medical treatment in case needed. You can also sign up with a German health insurance.
- proof of payment of the semester fee consisting of the social contribution (30,68€), AStA-contribution (students' representation, 7,00€) and the semester ticket (148,00€). Please note that these are no tuition fees! As exchange students, you are exempted from those.
After the registration, please come and see us at the International Office, Charlottenstrasse 55, room 635. We will provide you wih all further information and documents concerning your stay with us.

As there are many different course requirements by the European universities, it can be difficult to find suitable modules for your Erasmus stay.
Therefore the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" offers special Erasmus Curricula for the following fields of study:
- Strings, harp, wind instruments, percussion
- Piano, guitar, Liedgestaltung for pianists
- Orchestra conducting, choir conducting, correpetition
- Composition, historical and contemporary composition
- Vocal
Please choose the subjects you wish to study from the appropriate category listed above, and write the subjects names on your learning agreement.
You may only select subjects that are listed for your chosen field of study.
How to fill out your learning agreement?
Accomodation
Unfortunately the academy does not provide accomodations. We have compiled useful addresses you can check if you are looking for a room or an apartment:
The home institution send the application documents to the International Office at 'Hanns Eisler'. The International Office will inform the home instiution if the applicant will be admitted or not.
Please do not rely on hear-say or what a professor tells you about your application! There are various commissions deciding about Erasmus applications and all need to agree on the admission.
When the applicant can be admitted to our academy, the International Office at 'Hanns Eisler' officially informs the home instiution about it, and it sends back the Learning Agreement. Please check for course changes and if additional courses are according to the requirements at your home institution.
After the official admission Erasmus applicants will get a personal letter from the Students' Registration Office. This letter includes:
- an admission letter that you keep with you
- an acceptance letter confirming that you accept the Erasmus place. Please send this letter back to us!
- a request for payment for the semester fee. This is not a tuition fee! But the fee covers the social contributions and the semester ticket for public transportation.
How will I know about the outcome of my application?
If you are a citizen of a member state of the European Union, or if you come from Norway, Iceland or Switzerland, you don't need a visa to enter Germany. You also don't need a residence permit.
Please get in touch with the local 'Bürgeramt' (citizen center) within the first three months of your stay in Germany. You can find the addresses here:

Students who are not citizens of a EU member state need a visa for Germany in order to participate in the ERASMUS exchange program.
