
Janet Williams, born in America. Bachelor of Music in Voice and Music Education from Michigan State University in East Lansing, thereafter voice studies with Prof. Camilla Williams and Master of Music from Indiana University in Bloomington, where she received the „Performer’s Certificate“, voice lessons with Régine Crespin in Paris. Worked with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Peter Eötvös, Philippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs, Marek Janowski, Neeme Järvi, Sir Neville Marriner, Zubin Mehta, Kent Nagano, Donald Runnicles, Michael Tilson Thomas, Simone Young und Lothar Zagrosek. Appearances as lyric coloratura at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, in Paris at the Opéra Bastille, Opéra Garnier and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. As concert and oratorio soloist worked with orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, the radio symphony orchestras of BR, HR, MDR and RIAS, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Appeared in various festivals, including the Berliner Festspiele, Festival d’Avignon, Mostly Mozart Festival in New York, Montreux Jazz Festival, Handel Festival in Halle, Spoleto Festival in Italy, Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik. Recitals in Berlin, Paris, Tokyo, New York, San Francisco. CD recordings include “Cleopatra e Cesare” by Carl Heinrich Graun, awarded the Grand Prix du Disque, “Messiah“ by George Frederick Handel, “Ein deutsches Requiem“ by Johannes Brahms and “Il Matrimonio Segreto“ von Domenico Cimarosa. Numerous TV appearances and radio recordings in Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, Leipzig und Munich. Since 2009 has taught at the Academy of Music and Theatre Rostock, Tutor at the Lotte Lehmann Summer Academy in Perleberg. Masterclasses at various universities in the USA, Germany, France, England and Iceland as well as for Young Artist programmes in London, Paris, Iceland and the USA. 2006 publication of the book „Nail Your Next Audition, the Ultimate 30-Day Countdown for Singers“. Janet Williams is appointed visiting professor for voice at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin from the winter semester 2011/2012.
