KS Prof. Roman Trekel

KS Prof. Roman Trekel was born in Pirna. First oboe lessons at the age of nine. 1980-86 studied singing with KS Prof. Heinz Reeh at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin. 1986-88 member of the opera studio of the Deutsch Staatsoper Berlin, since 1988 member of the ensemble at the Deutsch Staatsoper Berlin, currently in such roles as Count Almaviva in "Le Nozze di Figaro", Don Alfonso in "Cosi fan tutte", Wolfram in "Tannhäuser", Kurwenal in "Tristan und Isolde", Amfortas in "Parsifal" and Posa in "Don Carlos". Prizewinner in singing competitions, e.g. 1st prize in the International "Walter Gruner" Lieder Competition in London, 1989. Debut at the Schubertiade Feldkirch in 1993. Appeared as soloist in the Alte Oper Frankfurt, Philharmonie Köln, Wigmore Hall London, MDR Leipzig, NDR Hanover, as well as the Schwetzingen Festival, Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspielen and the Musikverein Vienna, Zurich, Brussels, Atlanta, Chicago, New York. Concerts with various orchestras, e.g. Berlin Philharmonic, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, MDR Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Performed in the Flanders Festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Salzburg Festival. Guest artist at the oper houses in Amsterdam, Brussels, Catania, Florence, Geneva, Covent Garden London, Madrid, Zurich, Tokyo, Staatsoper Munich, Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Regular appearances at the Bayreuth Festival since 1996. Worked with the conductors Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Michael Gielen, Hartmut Haenchen, Eliahu Inbal, René Jacobs, Marek Janowski, Fabio Luisi, Zubin Mehta, Ingo Metzmacher, Kent Nagano, Antonio Pappano, Helmut Rilling, Sir Georg Solti, Horst Stein, Christian Thielemann, Franz Welser-Möst, Lothar Zagrosek and with the directors Philippe Arlaud, Ruth Berghaus, Fred Berndt, Nicolas Brieger, Patrice Chereau, Doris Dörrie, August Everding, Erhard Fischer, Harry Kupfer, Nikolaus Lehnhoff, Jonathan Miller, Alexander Schulin, Keith Warner. Private lessons with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Recitals with Daniel Barenboim, Oliver Pohl, Burkhard Kehring, Elena Bashkirova, Hartmut Höll and Helmut Deutsch. Extensive discography, of which two recordings received awards - "Orpheus" by Georg Philipp Telemann (German Recording Prize 1998) and "Szenen und Arien für Bariton" of Siegfried Wagner (German Recording Critics’ Award 2001). In 2000 awarded the title ”Kammersänger”. From 1989 freelance teacher at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin, appointed honorary professor in 2007.
