KS Prof. Uta Priew

KS Prof. Uta Priew was born in Karlsbad. Member of the chorus at the Carl Maria von Weber Theatre Bernburg, first singing lessons there from Wolfgang Rainer. Studied singing with Erna Feierabend at the Halle Conservatoire and with Maria Croonen at the Academy of Music Leipzig. 1970 employed by Harry Kupfer at the German national Theatre Weimar in repertoire by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Guiseppe Verdi, Johann Strauss, Christoph Willibald von Gluck, Georges Bizet, Siegfried Matthus, Paul Dessau. Since 1980 member of the ensemble at the State Opera Unter den Linden Berlin in roles including Dorabella, Cherubino, Annius, Idamante, Selika, Amneris, Cenerentola, Carmen, Jeanne, Marie, Klytämnestra, Herodias, Kostelnicka, Ortrud, Venus, Brangäne, Fricka, Waltraute and Kundry. 1984 awarded the title Kammersängerin. 1988-2006 permanent guest artist at the Bayreuth Festival as Kundry, Ortrud, Venus, Waltraute. 1991-1996 guest artist at the Vienna State Opera as Kundry, Ortrud, Venus, Waltraute, Fricka and Brangäne. Guest appearances and concerts in e.g. Munich, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Paris, Milan, Copenhagen, Chicago, New York, Tokio, Moscow, Tel Aviv, Nice, Monte Carlo, Seville with conductors including Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Christoph von Dohnányi, Heinrich Hollreiser, James Levine, Kent Nagano, Peter Schneider, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Horst Stein, Otmar Suitner and producers such as Ruth Berghaus, Dieter Dorn, Adolf Dresen, Erhard Fischer, Claus Guth, Pet Halmen, Harry Kupfer and Peter Mussbach. Appearances as concert, oratorio and Lieder singer in works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Händel, Ludwig van Beethoven, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Pjotr Iljich Tchaikovsky, Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Hanns Eisler, Ottorino Respighi, Arnold Schönberg and Gustav Mahler. Masterclasses in Peking and in St. Petersburg. Taught since 2000 at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin as part-time tutor, since 2007 as honorary professor.
