
Prof. Volker Tessmann was born in 1967. He took his first bassoon lessons at the age of 12 with Martin Kohler at the Braunschweig Music School. From 1986-91 Volker Tessmann studied with Prof. Klaus Thunemann at the Academy of Music and Theatre Hannover, continuing until 1994 in the soloist class. In 1991 he was a finalist in the German Music Council Competition and received a scholarship from the "Konzerte junger Künstler" foundation. Volker Tessmann was principal bassoon from 1992-93 in the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie and from 1993-95 in the NDR Radio Philharmonic Hannover. Since 1995 principal bassoon with the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg. Volker Tessmann has been a member of the wind quintet "Ma´alot" since 1997 and of the "Ensemble Florestan" since 1998. He gave numerous concerts at home and abroad with the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie and the OFUNAM Orchestra Mexico. He played at various festivals in Japan with the Ensemble of Tokyo. Since 2001 he has taught bassoon at the Academy of Music Lübeck. In the winter semester 2005/06 Volker Tessmann was appointed guest professor and from the winter semester 2006/07 professor for bassoon at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin.
