Musiktheaterwerkstatt (Music Theatre Workshop)
Opportunities to foster the interdisciplinary approach in music theatre include the regular “Musiktheaterwerkstatt”, in which students in direction, voice and conducting studies work together. It is unique for the diversity of its projects, reflecting the character of practice-oriented learning through its training dynamics and thus allowing an intensive career preparation.
Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin stages a regular Opera Gala to various thematic focal areas with an outstanding repertoire, in which voice students take on the role of soloists. Accompanied by the school’s symphony orchestra, the ambitious program is presented in the festive setting of the Konzerthaus Berlin.
Neue Szenen (New Scenes)
Since 2013 Hanns Eisler School of Music and Deutsche Oper Berlin call for the Neue Szenen composition competiton biannually, inviting young composers aged 35 or under to submit their applications. The three winning entrants receive a grant for the composition of an original work of musical theatre, with each work being staged by a student in direction studies and performed by voice and instrumental students of Hanns Eisler School of Music. The winning works première in the Tischlerei of Deutsche Oper Berlin.
