We are pleased to welcome you to the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin! If you are beginning your studies with us soon, then you‘re in the right place!

Below you will find more information regarding enrolment and the first semester weeks which should facilitate an easy transition into your studies. Please read the following carefully!

For any questions regarding visa/residence permits, health insurance, your accommodation search or credit transfers/credit recognition for extracurricular credits, please contact the Matriculation Office.

In-Person Enrolment

New students must enrol in-person in the Matriculation Office at HfM.

Enrolment must be completed by 13 October 2017 at the latest.

Required Documents

New Bachelor Students

  • Proof of health insurance

    • For international students: foreign health insurances and valid European Health Insurance cards must be approved by a German public health insurance office.
    • The cost for students in the German public health system differ only slightly. On 28th and 29th of September, a representative from a German health insurance company will be at HfM – this is an opportunity to sign up for German public health insurance or to have your European Health Insurance card approved.

Transfer Students, Students of Master and KE Programs

  • Proof of health insurance

    • For international students: foreign health insurances and valid European Health Insurance cards must be approved by a German public health insurance office.
    • The cost for students in the German public health system differ only slightly. On 28th and 29th of September, a representative from a German health insurance company will be at HfM – this is an opportunity to sign up for German public health insurance or to have your European Health Insurance card approved.

  • Certificates/Proof of Studies

    • University Entrance Qualification: Abitur, Matura (if available) or the Acceptance Letter of your previous university/conservatory.
    • Master Students: Bachelor Diploma or Diplom certficiate or a letter confirming your diploma is forthcoming.
    • Konzertexamen/Meisterklasse: Master Diploma
    • Transcript of Records
    • Exmatriculation certificate from your previous university (if applicable).

      Only originals of diplomas/certificates are accepted!

For All International Students

  • For students from non-EU/Schengen countries: Residence Permit from the Berlin Foreigners Registration Office or proof that you have an appointment at the Berlin Foreigners Registration Office 
  • For international transfer students: if your residence permit is tied explicitly to a specific university and/or program, then we will need the updated residence permit.

  • Bachelor Students: Language Certificate B.2.2. (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), or participation in the obligatory intensive language course starting 04 September 2017

Intensive Language Course

For International Bachelor Students who are not at B2.2 level of German, your enrolment is conditonal based on attending the intensive German language course prior to the beginning of the semester.

If you do not meet this condition, you will not be able to enrol.

The intensive language course begins 04 September 2017.

Welcome Weeks

We recommend you attend the welcome weeks right at the beginning of the semester so that you may attend to organizational tasks such as enrolment and course registration.

The Welcome Weeks will last from 04. October to 20. October 2017.

You will have the opportunity to learn more about Hanns Eisler, your course of study, as well as enrol and register for classes. You will be able to meet relevant contact persons in the student services offices, lecturers and fellow students, as well as enjoy a visit to the HfM library and a city tour of Berlin.
