Mandatory Audition Programmes

Winter Semester 2018/19

Applicants of the following programmes are to prepare a mandatory audition programme:

  • Orchestra Conducting: Master

Master

Georg Philipp Telemann: Fantaisie No. 4 or No. 12

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Flute Concerto D major, first movement with cadence

Ludwig v. Beethoven: Orchestral Passage: Symphony No. 3 (fourth movement)

Pierre Sancan: Sonatine or Henri Dutillex: Sonatine

(Music Theatre) Direction

Bachelor

The musical component of the examination will take place on the first examination day, while the theoretical component will take place on the second, and the practical component on the third. Additionally, on the second day there will be an improvisation round so that the committee can meet the applicants. Applicants must successfully pass all three components of the exam to be offered admission to the highly competitive programme

Precise information regarding the musical exams in compositional technique, ear training and piano can be found in the relevant admission regulations. 

For the theoretical exam (presentation of your concept) please choose one of the following works:

  1. Mozart „Die Zauberflöte“
  2. Verdi „Falstaff“
  3. Strauß „Die Fledermaus“
  4. Debussy „Pelléas et Mélisande“
  5. Strauss „Der Rosenkavalier“
  6. Poulenc „La voix humaine“

The conceptualization of the selected work must be submitted and arrive by 8 June 2018 via post to:

Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, Abteilung A, Frau Edith Reichel,
Charlottenstraße 55, 10117 Berlin.

Please ensure that your concept arrives on time. Late entries will not be considered.

The conceptualization should be no less than 4 pages and not exceed 8 pages. Supplemental floor plans, drawings and photos of your concept are strongly encouraged.

For your presentation during the theoretical component of the exam, we recommend to bring stage models and other visuals.

For the practical examcomponent, please prepare from the opera „Die Zauberflöte“ from W. A. Mozart, Act 2, No 21 Finale, Scene 29, the duet Papageno/Papagena „Pa – Pa – Pa...“.

There will be two voice students and a répétiteur available to you.

  • an audiovisual recording of one of your musical theater productions on DVD,
  • proof of practical experience in directing, or as an assistant director or musical direction trainee/intern in at least three musical theater productions,
  • detailed information regarding your musical education.
