Les Contes de Hoffmann

To mark the 250th anniversary of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s birth, vocal and directing students are presenting scenes from *The Tales of Hoffmann*, one of the world’s most frequently performed operas, which also has a special connection to the Eisler due to its setting at Lutter & Wegner.

Sinfoniekonzert

In the symphonic concert of the summer semester, the school's symphony orchestra, under the direction of Markus Stenz, dedicates itself intensively to the music of Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss. The vocal soloist will be Duangamorn Fu.

Masterclasses freitags um 6 mit Prof. Mara Kurotschka

Director and choreographer Mara Kurotschka has been teaching Scenic Instruction to vocal students at the Hanns Eisler School of Music since 2018. For the first time, she is offering the public a masterclass, as well as an evening lecture with her students titled "Play Opera" the day before.

Beatrice Colombis wins Michael Hill International Violin Competition 2026

Australian violinist Beatrice Colombis has won first prize at the 2026 Michael Hill International Competition in New Zealand. She has been studying with Suyeon Kang at the Eisler School since the 2025–26 winter semester.

Sueye Park Appointed to Professorship in Vienna

The violinist, a graduate of the Eisler School who studied under Prof. Ulf Wallin, has been a professor of violin at the renowned University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) since March 2026.

Madalena Oliveira Martins and Ainhoa López de Munain win at Haydn Competition

At the International Haydn Vocal Competition for Classical Art Song and Aria, Madalena Oliveira Martins was awarded third prize; Ainhoa López de Munain received the Audience Award.

Omer Ein Zvi to become First Kapellmeister in Stuttgart

The Israeli conductor Omer Ein Zvi, a student in Prof. Markus Stenz’s conducting class, will become First Kapellmeister and Assistant to the General Music Director at the Stuttgart State Opera from the 2026/27 season.

Junyoung Choi succeeds at the Seoul International Music Competition

The South Korean baritone Junyoung Choi, a student in Ralf Lukas’s singing class, was awarded third prize at the 2026 Seoul International Music Competition.

2nd prize at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition for the Euphorie Quartett

The Euphorie Quartet, from Prof. Jonathan Aner’s chamber music class, won second prize at the 12th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in Japan.

Survey for a nationwide study on abuse of power begins

From May 2026, the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin will be taking part in a nationwide, independent, cross-institutional study on the manifestations and prevention of abuse of power at German music academies.

The 2026 German Business Music Award goes to Benjamin Günst

The Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft has awarded its 2026 Music Prize to master’s student Benjamin Günst from Prof. Antje Weithaas’s violin class; the prize includes a cash award of 15,000 euros and the opportunity to perform at prestigious festivals.

Students and alumni from the violin classes secure positions in orchestras

David Marquard, Esther Frey, Mariana Espada Lopes, Anne Luisa Kramb, Raquel Areal Martínez, Sonja Bogner and Alexandra Weissbecker have secured positions with, among others, the Munich and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.

In the second Library Hour of this semester, Prof. Louise Pollock and Prof. Dr. Stefan Drees discuss important works from the trombone repertoire and talk about the pedagogical design of lessons.

Eisler Brass

The schools's brass ensemble has once again invited a renowned guest and, this time, welcomes the horn player Wolfgang Gaag. At the end of their rehearsal week, they will present a summer-themed brass program in the Krönungskutschen-Saal, featuring works by Bach, Bruckner, Dvořák, and others.

With scenes from "Hoffmanns Erzählungen", voice and directing students dedicate themselves on the occasion of the 250th birthday of E. T. A. Hoffmann to one of the most frequently performed operas in the world, which also has a special connection to the Eisler through its setting at Lutter & Wegner.

Mathieu Dufour appointed Chair of Flute

The French flutist Mathieu Dufour has been appointed to the Chair of Flute at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. He has been taking over the flute class of Prof. Benoît Fromanger since 2023.
