Alumnus Pablo Santa Cruz appointed professor in Hanover

The University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover has appointed Eisler alumnus Pablo Santa Cruz as professor of double bass at the start of the 2025/2026 winter semester. Pablo Santa Cruz completed his master's degree at the Eisler under Prof. Esko Laine in 2021.

He was born in Mexico City in 1991 to a Guatemalan father and a Puerto Rican mother. He began studying double bass in the Programme for Youth Symphony Orchestras (POSJU) in Puerto Rico and at the Escuela Libre de Música Ernesto Ramos Antonini, then went on to study at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid and the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin.

After spending time as a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, he had a temporary contract with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra until he joined the Konzerthausorchester Berlin as a permanent member in 2018. In addition to his work in the orchestra, he also plays chamber music repertoire in various formats. Since 2019, he has held a teaching position at the Berlin University of the Arts.
