Annie Jacobs-Perkins new cellist in the Ensemble Modern

Eisler graduate Annie Jacobs-Perkins will become the new cellist of Ensemble Modern at the beginning of 2026. The American musician was selected by the members of this high-calibre international ensemble of soloists for contemporary music after a multi-stage selection process.

Annie Jacobs-Perkins completed her master's degree in cello with Prof. Troels Svane at the Eisler from 2021 to 2024 and is currently studying chamber music with Prof. Jonathan Aner with her piano trio Trio Brontë. She is also a graduate of the University of Southern California, the New England Conservatory Boston and the Barenboim-Said Academy Berlin.

In 2023, she was awarded the Pierre Fournier Award in the United Kingdom and in 2024, she won first prize at the Buchet International Cello Competition in Belgium. With Trio Brontë, she won first prize at the Ilmari Hannikainen International Piano Chamber Music Competition in Finland in 2023, second prize at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition 2025 in Berlin, and first prize and the special prize for a CD production at the International Chamber Music Competition ‘Franz Schubert and Modern Music’ in Graz. From 2023 to 2025, she was Artist-in-Residence at the Austin Chamber Music Centre in Texas, USA.

In the field of new music, it has collaborated with renowned contemporary composers such as Thomas Adès, Brett Dean, Jessie Montgomery and Jörg Widmann.

The Ensemble Modern, founded in 1980, is one of the world's leading ensembles for contemporary music and is based in Frankfurt am Main. With varying line-ups, it performs world premieres, concert and music theatre projects in cooperation with festivals, radio stations and international concert halls.
