Large donation from the Grunewald Foundation secures school anniversary

The Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin is receiving a generous donation of nearly €200,000 from the Grunewald Foundation to mark its 75th anniversary. The donation will enable the school to finance several anniversary events in the 2025/26 winter semester.
‘It is a great honour to support one of Europe's leading music academies in its anniversary activities so that its 75th anniversary can be celebrated in an appropriate manner,’ writes the foundation's founder, Winfried Wohlfeld.
With the help of this large donation, the Eisler can now realise elaborate productions and events that could only be planned with major restrictions in view of the ongoing negotiations with the Berlin Senate on cuts in the school budget from 2025 onwards. In the 2025/26 winter semester, the foundation will support, among other things, the school community's birthday celebration at the beginning of the semester, performances of the operetta ‘Die Fledermaus’ premiering on 17 October, and a gala concert featuring Mahler's Symphony No. 3 on 8 December 2025 conducted by Prof. Markus Stenz.
The foundation has already supported the musical theatre production ‘Così fan tutte’ in 2023 and the university's chamber music festival in 2024. In 2024, the Grunewald Foundation contributed to the financing of the newly created ‘Dirighetta’, a rehearsal ensemble of the conducting department.
The school would like to express its sincere thanks to the Grunewald Foundation for its generous support.
