Liana Lessmann professor of wind chamber music at the HMT Leipzig

Clarinettist and Eisler graduate Liana Leßmann will be appointed professor of wind chamber music at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig on 1 December 2025. From 2020 to 2025, she completed a master's degree in chamber music with Prof. Martin Spangenberg at the Eisler with her wind quintet, the Pacific Quintet.

Liana Leßmann was a scholarship holder at the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, regularly performed with the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Kammerakademie Potsdam and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and gave concerts with these orchestras under renowned conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Kirill Petrenko, Paavo Järvi, Valery Gergiev, Andris Nelsons and Alan Gilbert. She gained further orchestral experience as deputy principal clarinettist with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra and as a member of the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra, where she has been playing since the 2022/23 season. From the 2025/26 season, she will take up the position of principal clarinetist with the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra.

With the Pacific Quintet, which she co-founded in 2018, she won first prize at the Ton & Erklärung competition in 2021 and second prize and the audience prize at the International ARD Music Competition in 2024.
