Prizes for Madalena Oliveira Martins and Ainhoa López de Munain at the Haydn Competition


Two vocal students have won prizes at the 8th International Haydn Vocal Competition for Classical Art Song and Aria, which took place from 22 to 24 May 2026 in Rohrau, Lower Austria.
The 26-year-old Portuguese soprano Madalena Oliveira Martins was awarded third prize as well as a special prize from the Mozarthaus Vienna, which includes a concert engagement. She has been studying for a Master’s degree in singing with Simon Bode since 2025. Prior to this, she completed her Bachelor’s degree at the Eisler.
The Spanish soprano Ainhoa López de Munain (26) was awarded the Audience Prize, which was donated by the Austrian actor Alfred Dorfler. She too completed her Bachelor’s degree at the Eisler and has been studying for her Master’s degree with Prof. Ewa Wolak since 2025.
The Haydn Competition has been organised by the Haydn Region of Lower Austria since 2018 and is aimed at young singers from all over the world with exceptional talent and training in the field of art song and opera. The competition focuses on the art song and aria repertoire from the Viennese Classical period. Angelika Kirchschlager chaired the jury.
