Violin professorship for alumna Sarah Christian in Munich

Eisler alumna Sarah Christian will be appointed professor of violin at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich in the winter semester of 2025/26. Previously, she taught as professor of violin at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart since 2019. Sarah Christian is a soloist and chamber musician. Since 2024, she has been playing as first concertmaster in the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and has held the same position in the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen since 2013.
The multi-award-winning violinist gained international attention in 2017 when she won second prize at the ARD Music Competition, as well as the audience prize and the special prize of the Munich Chamber Orchestra. In 2012, she won first prize at the Mendelssohn-Bartholdy University Competition in Berlin, and in 2013 she was awarded second prize and the chamber music prize at the Michael Hill International Violin Competition in Auckland, New Zealand.
Sarah Christian completed her studies at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin under Prof. Antje Weithaas and was also appointed as her assistant in Berlin from 2013 to 2016. She completed her first degree under Igor Ozim at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg at the age of 20 with the highest distinction. She received important musical inspiration in masterclasses with Thomas Brandis, Donald Weilerstein, Rainer Schmidt, Maxim Vengerov and Miriam Fried.
