Second Prize for the Euphorie Piano Quartet at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition

Euphorie Quartett

In May, the Euphorie Quartet won second prize at the 12th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in Japan. The competition is one of the most prestigious international chamber music competitions. Coco Tomita (violin), Julia Wawrowska (viola), Clara Eglhuber (cello), and Daniel Streicher (piano) have been studying at the Eisler School since 2022 in Prof. Jonathan Aner’s piano chamber music class at the Center for Chamber Music. The chamber music prize is endowed with ¥1,200,000; the quartet was also awarded the “Music in PyeongChang Award” by the South Korean music festival of the same name.

Founded in 2022, the quartet is currently based in Berlin, Zurich, and Paris. The members are Japanese violinist Coco Tomita, Polish violist Julia Wawrowska, German cellist Clara Eglhuber, and German-Hungarian pianist Daniel Streicher. In May 2023, they made their debut in the Chamber Music Hall of the Konzerthaus Berlin, followed by concerts at the Berlin Philharmonie and in Italy. At the 22nd Premio Trio di Trieste International Chamber Music Competition in Italy, they were awarded the “Fernanda Selvaggio” Special Prize as the youngest ensemble in the semifinals. Earlier this year, they emerged victorious from other international competitions, including the “Absolute First Prize” at the Fanny Mendelssohn Competition and the “Prix d’Honneur” at the France Music Competition.

The quartet is taught and mentored by Prof. Jonathan Aner at the Eisler School of Music and receives additional guidance from members of the Orelon Trio and the Fauré Quartet. In addition, the Euphorie Quartet participated in a Musethica session last semester as part of the school’s partnership with Musethica e.V.
