German Tcakulov appointed professor at the Mozarteum Salzburg

The Mozarteum University Salzburg has appointed violist and Eisler alumnus German Tcakulov to a professorship for viola in fall 2024. He completed most of his own musical training at the Eisler, where he studied in the class of Prof. Tabea Zimmermann for both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
Even before his appointment at the Mozarteum, he gained a wealth of teaching experience: From 2017 to 2022, German Tcakulov held a teaching position at the Eisler and was an assistant in Prof. Tabea Zimmermann's class. From 2021 to 2023, he taught his own viola class at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. In summer 2022, he was appointed Professor of Viola at the University of Music in Karlsruhe. He also teaches at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole in Florence and gives masterclasses worldwide.
Along with German Tcakulov, three Eisler alumni have already been appointed to professorships in viola at the Mozarteum in Salzburg: Sào Soulez Larivière and Muriel Razavi also studied with Prof. Tabea Zimmermann at the Eisler.
German Tcakulov held a tutti position in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra from 2018 to 2022 and has worked as an orchestral musician with renowned conductors such as Mariss Jansons, Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, Bernard Haitink, Herbert Blomstedt, Ivan Fischer, Daniel Harding, John Eliot Gardiner, Daniele Gatti and Valery Gergiev.
As part of his extensive concert activities as a chamber musician, he has performed at the International Summer Academy for Chamber Music Lower Saxony, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Otzberg Summer Concerts, among others. His chamber music partners include Stephan Forck, Ulf Wallin, Tabea Zimmermann, Claudio Bohórquez, Stephan Picard and Frank van de Laar.
He has won prizes at the Charles Hennen International Chamber Music Competition, the International Youth Competition in Jyväskylä, Finland, and the Mravinsky Competition in St. Petersburg. In 2013, he received a scholarship from the Lucia Loeser Foundation and in 2015 was awarded the startup!music prize from the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin.
