Trio Brontë wins 2nd prize in the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition

The second ensemble to compete for the Eisler in the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition also emerged successful from the piano trio competition: the jury awarded Trio Brontë 2nd prize in the Mendelssohn Competition. Founded in Berlin in 2022, Trio Brontë - with Chiara Sannicandro (violin), Lili Bogdanova (piano) and Annie Jacobs-Perkins (cello) - is named after the British Brontë sisters and is inspired by their passion, intelligence and camaraderie. The Trio Brontë studies as an ensemble at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin with pianist Prof Jonathan Aner and has received additional tuition from Prof Antje Weithaas, Prof Troels Svane and Prof Eldar Nebolsin.
The Trio Brontë is the first prize winner of the Ilmari Hannikainen Piano Chamber Music Competition 2023 in Finland and played as soloists in Beethoven's Triple Concerto with the Jyväskylä Sinfonia under the direction of Jan Söderblom, which was broadcast by the Finnish radio company Areena. Further recordings of the trio were broadcast by Classic FM Bulgaria.
The trio champions works by lesser-known composers as well as compositions from the traditional canon. They recently premiered Tuomas Turriago's ‘Panta Rhei’, and in autumn 2023 Trio Brontë presented their interdisciplinary programme ‘Un Jour’ in Sofia, Bulgaria, sponsored by the Bulgarian Culture Perspectives Foundation, focusing on works by Germaine Tailleferre, Mel Bonis and Lili Boulanger, among others. In the 24/25 season, Trio Brontë will be part of the Britten Pears Young Artist programme, culminating in a two-week residency and concerts at the Jubilee Hall in Aldeburgh. In the 24/25 season, the three musicians will also perform in Germany, the Netherlands, England and the United States.
