We mourn the loss of Prof Georg Sava

[Translate to English:] Prof. Georg Sava (1933-2024)

5 October 1933 - 19 July 2024
The pianist, long-time colleague and university lecturer Prof Georg Sava has passed away at the age of 90. He was appointed to the Eisler in 1997 and continued to teach at the school after his retirement in 2002 until 2012. Numerous alumni of his piano classes at the Eisler as well as at the former Hochschule der Künste (now Berlin University of the Arts) now teach at music academies themselves and speak with great gratitude about their training with Prof Sava, with whom many remained in contact until the end.

Born in Bucharest, Romania in 1933, he studied piano at the municipal conservatory in Târgu Mureș and at the Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca under György Halmos. Since graduating, Georg Sava has been active as a pianist and teacher, giving piano recitals, performing as a soloist in Romania and teaching at universities. He emigrated to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1977, initially as a guest teacher for accompaniment at the Stuttgart State University of Music and piano teacher at the Ludwigsburg Music School. In 1979, he became a visiting professor at the Berlin University of the Arts, followed by his appointment as professor in 1982 and his move to the Eisler in 1997 to succeed Prof Dieter Zechlin. After his retirement, he also continued his international concert and jury activities for many years.

In gratitude for the time that our school was able to experience with him and for the enormous commitment to his students, we will always honour Prof. Georg Sava's memory. Our deepest sympathy goes to his family.
