On the following pages you will find information on the work carried out by the student union. Please contact us if you would like to participate and contribute your own ideas, if there is something troubling you or there is something on your mind that cannot be discussed with a professor or teacher.
The school’s students’ union is comprised of the student parliament (StuPa) and the students’ union executive committee.
StuPa is the highest decision-taking body representing students. The school’s students elect its 30 members at the beginning of each winter semester and a chairperson is elected by StuPa from within its ranks, also for a term of one year.
StuPa’s functions are numerous and diverse. It elects the AStA members and appoints students for various committees (e.g. library commission, commission for international relations), in which it represents the students’ interests.
All StuPa sessions are public and all students can make an application at any time, or appeal to StuPa members in regard to problems, questions or issues.
Next to StuPa and the departmental student representatives, AStA is the executive institution of the student population. It represents students’ interests both within the school and externally.
AStA’s functions are divided into different departments whose members are elected from StuPa. The AStA departments are categorized in the following areas: school policy and public relations, social, finance, study & teaching, semester ticket, cultural, sport, and women & international students.
The semester ticket department administers students’ semester ticket fees as well as applications for semester ticket contributions, which students can receive under certain conditions (more information under Downloads).
Every student can at some time face a financial emergency, with which AStA may be able to help. In such a case, you can receive confidential advice from the social department, who will process an application for you quickly and discretely (more information under Downloads).
At the beginning of each semester the cultural department organizes an orientation event for all new students followed by a pub get-together to make new acquaintances. The school party organized by AStA is the highlight and closing event of each semester.
Moreover you can take part in the mentoring program, organized by Justus und Johannes (Bachelor of Music with a major in voice). Feel free to contact them if you have any doubts or questions concerning your studies. They will help you with pleasure. If there are any questions they are not sure about, they will forward it to students of your department or the responsible administration offices.
AStA also supports the Collage Concerts, a series of student concerts held every Thursday at 1pm at GKS II, Neuer Marstall. We organize weekly performance opportunities for which you can easily register yourself at www.collageconcerts.wordpress.com. We encourage students of all departments to perform so as to keep the program diversified.
More information on current events organized by AStA and last minute announcements are posted in our Facebook group Asta HfM Hanns Eisler.
