2nd prize for Junho Hwang at the Concours Musical de Montréal

The South Korean tenor and master's student of Prof Anna Korondi Junho Hwang won 2nd prize at the International Music Competition for Voice in Montreal, Canada. The prize is endowed with CAD 25,000. At the 23rd edition of the Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM), the finalists performed with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) under the direction of Patrick Summers.

Eisler graduate and finalist Julia Muzychenko-Greenhalgh also received a CMIM Grant. Eisler alumna Fanny Soyer was equally successful in the competition: as a semi-finalist, she was awarded the ICI Musique Audience Prize, which is endowed with CAD 5,000, as well as the McGill-UdeM Piano-Vocal Arts Residency Prize.

Junho Hwang, born in 1998, initially studied singing at Seoul National University and is currently studying for a master's degree at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. Junho Hwang has been a member of the International Opera Studio of the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden since December 2024 and has already appeared as Goro (Madama Butterfly) and Trojan (Idomeneo). The tenor has won prizes at international singing competitions, including 1st prize at the International Singing Competition for Italian Opera, 3rd prize at the International Otto Edelmann Singing Competition 2024 and 3rd prize at the Mirjam Helin Singing Competition 2024. Junho Hwang was a semi-finalist at the Concours de Genève 2024 and at the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2023.
