The Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin is seeking to appoint a 50% Professor at the Jazz Institut Berlin (JIB) as described below. The position is a part-time professorship (employed status, teaching commitment 9 hrs per week) for the subjects of Vocal Jazz and Jazz Ensemble, is open as of the 2023 Summer Semester and remunerated according to Salary Bracket W2.
The position is open to an outstanding artist (low voice: tenor/baritone/bass) with an international reputation and an active career in jazz. Furthermore, outstanding professional achievements and proven teaching experience at higher education level are expected. Recordings as a leader and/or „sideman“ as well as own compositions and stylistic diversity are also expected. The ability to accompany the development of the students’ vocal technique and teach vocal improvisation are assumed as a given. Experience with studio productions is desirable. The official and teaching language is German; a main residence in Berlin is desirable.
The Hanns Eisler School is interested in fostering intense cooperation among the entire faculty, in order to ensure optimal coverage of all artistic aspects. In working with the faculty, a capacity for teamwork and active commitment to all areas of the organization, of academic self-administration and the development of future pedagogical concepts and projects are expected.
