Field of study: Chamber Music for Pianists

• Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor's degree (B. Mus.) or comparable degree in piano as a major subject and 
• must have advanced musical ability in the programme subject

Field of study: Ensemble

• All members of the ensemble must hold at least a Bachelor of Music or equivalent
• All members must have advanced musical ability in the programme subject
• For this program, ensembles are defined as groups of three or more members with the exception of Lied duos.

For the pre-selection the platform muvac is used. 

On muvac you can upload video and audio recordings in the course of your application at the HfM Hanns Eisler Berlin.

Based on the uploades audio/video recordings the pre-selection is made subsequent to the application period.

Field of study: Chamber Music for Pianists

• A video with at least 30 minutes of music according to the repertoire requirements.
• Each work should be complete and unedited.
• Different works may be from different performances/recordings.
• The videos must not be older than one year and may contain works from the prepared examination program.

Field of study: Ensemble    

• A video with at least 60 minutes of music according to the repertoire requirements.
• Each work should be complete and unedited.
• Different works may be from different performances/recordings.
• The size of the ensemble and the composition of the musicians must correspond to that planned for the studies.
• The videos must not be older than one year and may contain works from the prepared examination program.

Field of study: Chamber Music for Pianists

• At least two complete, sophisticated solo works from different stylistic periods (including at least one work by J.S. Bach or a classical sonata).

Field of study: Ensemble

• Works from three different stylistic periods (including one work from the Classical or Baroque periods).
• At least two complete works.

Field of study: Chamber Music for Pianists

The entrance audition consists of the parts solo literature (1st part) and chamber music (2nd part). Admission to the second part of the examination depends on passing the first part.

Part 1: Solo repertoire

• At least two complete, sophisticated solo works from different stylistic epochs (including at least one work by J. S. Bach or a classical sonata)
• One etude
• Sight-reading

The programme must have a total length of approx. 30 minutes. The duration of the examination is up to 15 minutes.

Part 2: Chamber Music

• One piece of chamber music (will be given by the academy two weeks before the examination; individual movements may be selected by the commission). The chamber music partners are provided by the academy and are available for a short rehearsal.
• Open rehearsal with the partners, led by the applicant as primus inter pares (10 minutes).

Field of study: Ensemble

The entrance audition for the ensemble specialisation consists of an examination in the main subject and, if applicable, a subsequent interview.

Main subject examination:

• Preparation of all movements of at least three major works from different styles, of which the admissions committee selects 20 minutes of music for performance as an examination.
