The Echo Ensemble was established at Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin in 1997. The repertoire focuses on chamber ensemble and chamber orchestra music of the 20th century and the present. The ensemble counts as one of the school’s educational orchestras, also staging regular concerts.

Individual projects have been carried out in cooperation with Konzerthaus Berlin, Berlin State Opera and the Guggenheim Museum. From 1999 to 2007, Prof. Konstantia Gourzi was Artistic Director of the ensemble, since the summer semester of 2008 it is being directed by Prof. Manuel Nawri.

“The concert programs reflect the stylistic diversity of the 20th century and are simultaneously open to media such as film and video projection as well as the use of live electronics. The Echo Ensemble allows students to come together who wish to learn extended playing techniques and new artistic concepts, who find joy in the discovery of our musical present.”
