Alexander Fleischer appointed professor of song composition at the Karlsruhe University of Music

The renowned pianist, Lied accompanist and Eisler graduate Alexander Fleischer was appointed to the professorship for Lied interpretation at the Karlsruhe University of Music in the summer semester of 2025. He succeeded Prof. Hartmut Höll there in the summer semester of 2025.

He worked at the Eisler for eleven years from 2011 as artistic assistant to KS Prof. Thomas Quasthoff. Prior to this, he studied at the Eisler in Prof Birgitta Wollenweber's piano class and then song composition for pianists with Prof Wolfram Rieger. During his training, he was honoured several times at international competitions, including the Lied Accompanist Prize at the International Singing Competition ‘Das Lied’ in Berlin in 2009.

His extensive concert career has taken him to the Lucerne Festival, the Musikverein Vienna, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the Kölner Philharmonie, the Heidelberger Frühling, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Festspillene i Bergen in Norway and the RheinVokal Festival. He regularly works with renowned singers, including Bo Skovhus, Roman Trekel, Thomas Quasthoff, Tobias Berndt, Manuel Walser, Nikola Hillebrand, Jochen Kupfer, Andreas Wolf and Daniela Sindram.

Alexander Fleischer is the founder of the festivals ‘Hirschberger Liedfest’ and ‘LIED IN WÜRZBURG’. Several radio recordings and CD recordings complement his concert activities as a Lied pianist and chamber musician. From 2015 to 2024, he taught a Lied class at the Würzburg University of Music and in 2022 took up a professorship for Lied interpretation at the Trossingen State University of Music.
