Voice students and alumni in opera choirs and ensembles



Several vocal students and graduates of the university have recently been able to secure permanent engagements at renowned opera houses in Germany and abroad: The 24-year-old baritone Taehan Kim from South Korea, currently a Master's student in Prof Klaus Häger's class, will be a member of the Frankfurt Opera ensemble from the 2025/26 season. He has previously been a member of the opera studio at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden since 2023. Daesoon Kim, 34 years old and also from South Korea, completed his Master's degree in the class of Prof. Thomas Quasthoff from 2019 to 2022 and has been singing as first bass in the chorus of the Deutsche Oper Berlin since the 2023/24 season. The British soprano Stephanie Louise Edwards, 28, completed her master's degree in 2023 and was accepted into the chorus of the Royal Opera in London. The 32-year-old soprano Kristín Anna Guðmundsdóttir from Iceland, who first studied with Prof. Uta Priew for her Bachelor's and then Master's degrees, has been a permanent member of the Bremerhaven City Theatre ensemble since the 2024/25 season. Hyejun Melania Kwon, mezzo-soprano from South Korea and 29 years old, studied from 2020 to 2022 in the Master's programme with Prof. Ewa Wolak. After stints at the NRW Opera Studio and as a soloist at the Aalto Theatre in Essen, she will move to a permanent engagement at the Hagen Theatre for the 2025/26 season.
