Mariano Esteban Barco becomes solo oboist of the Staatskapelle Dresden

Eisler alumnus Mariano Esteban Barco has just won an audition to become principal oboist of the Staatskapelle Dresden and will take up his new position there in the 2025/26 season. The Spanish oboist completed his master's degree at the Eisler with Prof Viola Wilmsen and Prof Dominik Wollenweber. He was principal oboist with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and previously played in the same position with the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Born in Calanda in the Spanish region of Aragón in 1994, he was a junior student in Valencia and completed his bachelor's degree at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid with Hansjörg Schellenberger and Víctor Ánchel. He won first prizes at the Spanish National Youth Music Competition at an early age, was a semi-finalist at the International ARD Music Competition in Munich in 2017 and was awarded 2nd prize at the VII. International Oboe Competition ‘Giuseppe Tomassini’ in Italy. He gained orchestral experience with the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, the European Youth Orchestra, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the West Eastern Divan Orchestra with Daniel Barenboim.

He has played in renowned orchestras such as the Hamburg State Opera, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.

As a soloist, Mariano Esteban Barco has appeared with the Valencia Symphony Orchestra, the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, the Rostov Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Chamber Orchestra, as well as in the Philharmonie Berlin with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
