Prof. Antje Weithaas has been honoured with the OPUS KLASSIK 2025 as Instrumentalist of the Year for her recording of Pēteris Vasks' 2nd Violin Concerto with the Camerata Bern. An eleven-member expert jury made up of representatives from the music and media industry awarded the prizes, which are among the most important honours in Germany. The award ceremony will take place on 12 October 2025 at the Konzerthaus Berlin.
Most recently, the longstanding Eisler professor received the prestigious Annual Award of the German Record Critics in 2024 for the complete recording of the ten Beethoven violin sonatas, which was also released on the CAvi label.
The pianist and Eisler professor Kirill Gerstein receives a special prize for his curatorial work on the recording of ‘Music in Times of War’ by Claude Debussy and Komitas. The album reflects the music in the period between the genocide of the Armenian people and the First World War.
The OPUS KLASSIK honours exceptional projects and artists who inspire and set new standards in classical music. With 30 categories, it reflects the great diversity of classical music.
