Trio Goldmund wins 3rd prize at the ICM Pinerolo e Torino Città Metropolitana

The piano trio from Prof Jonathan Aner's chamber music class was awarded 3rd prize at the chamber music competition in Turin.

The Pinerolo e Torino Città Metropolitana International Chamber Music Competition took place this year from 3 to 9 March in Turin, Italy. A total of 46 ensembles competed, 22 of which were shortlisted and had the opportunity to present themselves live to the jury. Trio Goldmund, which studies at the Centre for Chamber Music in the class of Prof. Jonathan Aner, was able to assert itself among the participants and was awarded the €4,000 3rd prize.

The Trio Goldmund was founded by pianist Xinlai Liu, violinist Sergey Putnikov and cellist Leopold Behrens in Cologne, in 2019. The name of the ensemble is inspired by the character of the same name from Hermann Hesse's novel Narcissus and Goldmund and symbolises the need to pursue an artistic path full of curiosity and openness. The trio received its chamber music training at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Prof Hans-Christian Schweiker, Prof Fabio Bidini and Robert Kulek. There they won first prize at the 8th University Chamber Music Competition. They then moved to the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin to study with Prof Jonathan Aner.

Trio Goldmund recently attracted attention when it reached the final round of the Franz Schubert and Modern Music competition. Previously, they were guests at the radio3-Kultursalon as part of the rbb programme series DIE ABSOLVENTEN.
