Bastian Stein appointed professor for trumpet at the Jazz Institute Berlin

The jazz trumpeter Bastian Stein will be appointed professor for trumpet at the Jazz Institute Berlin for the summer semester 2022. Bastian Stein was already teaching as a visiting professor in 2020|21 and will take up his professorship at the JIB on April 1, 2022. The Jazz Institute Berlin is a joint institution of the Hanns Eisler School of Music and the Berlin University of the Arts.

Bastian Stein comes from Heidelberg and began studying classical trumpet at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna at the age of 15 and then moved to the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Amsterdam. He completed his master’s degree in Vienna.

In 2012 he released his debut album "Grounded" on "Double Moon Records", the following year the CD "Diegesis" was released on the German label Pirouet with the "Bastian Stein Group" (feat. Pablo Held, Matthias Pichler and Tobias Backhaus) Records.

In 2013 he founded his new quartet in Cologne (feat. Johannes Enders, Phil Donkin and James Maddren) and in 2016 released the CD "Viktor" on Pirouet Records. In 2020 there were two more publications. His current trio (Phil Donkin, bass & James Maddren, drums) is documented with "An Eel's Trip", the album "Aries Point" with the Belgian Hathor Consort was released on Outnote Record. In addition to various solo activities as a sideman, which are documented on more than 30 albums, he has worked with all big bands of the German radio stations in recent years.

As a lecturer for jazz trumpet, he has been teaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart since 2016.
