Dayoon You wins 2nd Grand Prize of Long-Thibaud Violin Competition 2023

South Korean violinist Dayoon You, a master's student in Prof Kolja Blacher's class, has won the second prize of 20,000 euros at the Long-Thibaud International Violin Competition in Paris. The competition, which is held every three years under the patronage of French President Emmanuel Macron, alternates between violin and piano and awards prize money totalling more than 80,000 euros. The competition winners receive opportunities to perform at numerous international festivals. This year, the Long-Thibaud jury consisted of Sarah Nemtanu, Silvia Marcovici, Akiko Suwanai, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Sergey Khachatryan, Boris Kuschnir, Marc Laforêt and Jean-Claude Casadesus. The finalists performed with the Orchestre de la Garde républicaine.

After completing his Bachelor's degree in the summer semester, Dayoon You is currently continuing his Master's studies with Prof Kolja Blacher. He previously won the Kronberg Academy Special Prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich and was honoured as a finalist at the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznań. As an active chamber musician, he also won first prize and the special prize for the best Mozart interpretation as a member of the Arete Quartet at the 2023 International Mozart Competition in Salzburg.
