Prof. Wolfgang Redik

  • Born in Graz/Austria
  • Studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Klaus Eichholz and at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna with Michael Schnitzler; received many awards already during his studies
  • 1986-92: Concertmaster, Wiener Kammerphilharmonie; 1992-96: guest concertmaster with the Sinfonieorchester Vorarlberg and the Haydnorchester Bozen
  • Since 1992: 1rst concertmaster of the ÖsterreichischUngarischen Haydnphilharmonie, including complete recordings of the symphonies of Haydn
  • Since 2007: regularly heads numerous concerts and projects; concertmaster of the Camerata Salzburg, the Wiener Kammerorchester, the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, and the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester
  • Has appeared as a soloist with numerous major orchestras, among them the Orchestre Philharmonique Belgique, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre Metropolitain de Montreal, the Münchner Kammerorchester, and the Camerata Salzburg
  • Concert appearances in Tokyo, Shanghai, Milan, Montreal, Chicago, and Geneva; appearances at the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Große Musikvereinssaal Wien, the Bregenzer Festspielhaus, and the Tonhalle Zürich
  • On invitation from Kent Nagano: debut as a soloist and conductor with the Montréal Symphony Orchestra in autumn of 2012
  • 1988: Founded the Vienna Piano Trio: nearly 25 years of concertizing, numerous CD recordings, as well as radio and television appearances; recipient in 2010 of the Echo Klassik Prize; cycle of performances in the Mozartsaal of the Wiener Konzerthauses;  Ensemble in Residence in 2011 at Wigmore Hall in London
  • Over the past 7+ years: joint concerts with the pianist Christoph Berner; frequent chamber music appearances with partners such as Jörg and Carolin Widmann, Christian Poltéra, Antoine Tamestit, and Sharon Kam
  • Director and founder of the Mozart Chamber Ensemble
  • From 1989 until 2008: instructor in orchestra studies and guest professor for violin and chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz/ Oberschützen Campus
  • Autumn of 2007: appointed university professor for chamber music at the Mozarteum University Salzburg
  • 2010: Founds the Sándor Végh Institute for Chamber Music: institute head, musical director of the Sándor Végh Kammerorchester, as well as of the Salzburg Chamber Music Festival
  • 2009/10: Professor for Violin at the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig
  • 2012/13: Professor and artistic director of the Orchesterzentrums NRW in Dortmund
  • Beginning winter semester 2018/19: guest professor, since summer semester 2019 professor for chamber music for strings at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin
  • Wolfgang Redik plays a violin by J. B. Guadagnini from 1772, which has been made available to him by the Österreichische Nationalbank
