Checking Accounts

In Germany, important costs such as rent and health insurance are paid using bank transfers, thus a German or SEPA area bank account makes it much easier. Most banks offer free checking accounts (Girokonto) for students (generally under the age of 30).

Blocked Accounts

Blocked accounts are required for many international students as proof of finances for the visa or residence permit. This account is a certain amount of money of which you can only access a certain amount a month.
