Arthur Stockel receives 1st prize at the International Clarinet Competition in Ghent

French clarinetist and master's student Arthur Stockel has won first prize at the prestigious Ghent International Clarinet Competition – the Flemish Community Prize – in Belgium. Arthur Stockel studies at the Eisler with Prof. Martin Spangenberg. The prize, which is endowed with 15,000 euros, includes two years of international concert management, solo concerts and recitals.

The versatile clarinetist is already in demand internationally as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician. At the age of 21 he was elected principal clarinetist of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra. He played in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy, among others, and performed under conductors such as Daniel Harding, Valery Gergiev, Antonio Pappano and Vladimir Jurowski. He has been invited to perform as Principal Clarinet with Gianandrea Noseda and the London Symphony Orchestra on their 2019 European tour and is a regular guest with ensembles such as the Orchester de Paris and the Mariinsky Orchestra.
